Accurate, easy to interpret data, delivered quickly.

Here at GW Traffic Data Services we understand our job is to provide our clients with a quality service- accurately and efficiently.

We offer a vast range of traffic and transportation data collection and analysis services to suit all your needs.

If you can't see a survey that meets your requirements here simply get in touch and we'll tailor a package just for you.

Our team is highly skilled in all aspects of data collection. From video traffic surveys and automatic counters to face-to-face interviews, we have you covered!

Video Surveys

Video surveys consist of small cameras being installed to monitor traffic activity. Video provides a highly accurate record and is also extremely discreet, meaning the majority of people would be unaware of their installation and therefore very unlikely to alter any driving habits consequently.

Video surveys have multiple uses, below you can explore a variety of survey types we carry out regularly, but there are many more we can cater for- please contact us to discuss your exact requirements and together we'll find a solution.

Junction Counts/Traffic Turning Counts

We have an experienced team that can count any junction layout varying from a basic T-junction to a complex multiple camera roundabout with any number of vehicle classifications. The team are specialized in 100% lane-by-lane tracking on large roundabouts.

Traffic turning counts are generally used to determine whether a junction or roundabout needs traffic lights. Equations are used to decide whether the volume of the traffic determines that a light is needed. This equation is based on the road classification, entering speed and pedestrian/bicyclist movement through the junction- all of this data can be easily collected and analysed by us and turned into an easy to read report for you!

Link Counts

We can supply accurate link count data with any number of vehicle classifications depending upon the client’s requirements. The link counts can be carried out on any road, from a quiet rural road to a busy motorway/highway.

Queue Length Analysis

Queue length is an important parameter in traffic engineering.

Queue length surveys are often used when looking at junction improvements and for traffic engineering design and modelling. They measure volumes of traffic providing vital evidence of congestion and delays.

We can conduct a variety of different queue surveys depending upon the client’s requirement. This includes maximum queue & minimum queue in any interval range, average queue length, queue at the start of Green phase and queue delay surveys etc. We even have experience of tracking the queue back form one exit of the motorway to the other using multiple cameras.

Taxi Rank Monitoring

The team have a lot of experience in monitoring taxi ranks. We can supply taxi arrival times, departure times, position in the queue, whether they left the rank with a passenger or not and other unusual behaviours.

Bus Station/Stop Surveys

Using video footage, we can monitor bus arrival times, departure times, boarding and alighting counts by gender and age and/or bus service number for example, or any other information depending upon the client’s specific requirements.

Parking Surveys

Parking surveys are used to identify parking trends and needs and are carried out for both on and off-street parking. We can collect data to include length of stay as well as capacity and usage of parking areas.

Parking surveys are also useful tools when evaluating the use of pay and display parking bays and parking permits.

The team have carried out numerous parking surveys on streets, supermarkets, hospitals, parking lots etc. We can supply the total In/Out of the parking, accumulation information at any point of time, individual parking bay information etc. If the parking beat survey is carried out manually, we can utilize data entry operators to convert the details on paper into Excel format, or indeed any other format depending upon the individual client’s requirements.

Pedestrian/Non-Motorised User Counts (NMU’s)

NMU Audits consider how new or modified junctions or highway schemes affect pedestrians, cyclists, equestrians, and disabled users. We can supply a wide range of NMU classifications to suit any needs, including pedestrians by gender, cyclists by gender, wheelchair users, visually impaired users, the elderly, school children and prams to name but a few. We can carry out NMU counts on a signalised crossing, zone to zone crossing, crossing within individual arms of a junction, crossing between arms of a junction, on a traffic island and can even track NMU’s between different O-D points. We can also identify the pedestrian desired lines.

Automatic Traffic Counts (ATC’s)

We have extensive experience in ATC installations and our team of analysts have a wide knowledge of extracting the tube information and generating reports with importance to different factors such as vehicle classification, speed, volume etc. depending upon the individual client’s specific requirements.

Speed Detection Radar Surveys

Our Speed Detection Radar guns are a useful alternative to pneumatic tube based counters in a range of situations. They have the advantages of being hand-held, meaning no street furniture is required for installation and there are minimal Health and Safety risks.

These manual traffic counts also have the benefit of providing precise details of the survey environment and conditions, allowing the technician to note the exact weather conditions and the occurrence of high-speed emergency vehicles etc. These factors are not taken into account where Automatic Traffic Counters are employed.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology is an extremely accurate and reliable way to monitor traffic movements.

At GW Traffic Data Services our advanced camera system and software allows us to undertake a range of surveys and reports including:

  • Origin and destination surveys
  • Journey time surveys
  • Delay time surveys
  • Car park monitoring surveys
  • Motorway and large roundabout surveys
  • HGV surveys
  • Vehicle emissions data collection and analysis
